Aquamarine

Typically a clear sky-blue, aquamarine has long been renowned as the gem of far-seeing and sea travel. A light, happy stone that brings joy and serenity, aquamarine is a member of the beautiful beryl family of minerals.

Ancient mystics believed that aquamarine is the Stone of the Seer, and that it brings the wearer calmness, a gentle nature, a placid and friendly personality. Aquamarine also promotes purity of thought and conduct.

The name of aquamarine comes from the Latin aqua marina, meaning "water of the sea." While aquamarine generally ranges from pale blue to deep oceanic indigo, it can also be heat-treated to give it a delightful sea green color. Almost all aquamarine sold through jewelers has been heat-treated, but if the stone overheats it turns colorless.

Aquamarine metaphysical properties are primarily concerned with opening up psychic abilities. It enhances clairvoyance and intuition. Aquamarine can open one's psychic senses a bit too much. Some astrologers argue that aquamarine is a stone of Taurus, for its six sided crystal corresponds to the number of Venus, that Sign's planetary ruler. But others insist that watery aquamarine belongs to the Water Signs Scorpio, Pisces, and Cancer.
