Moonstone

Moonstone is an opalescent form of orthoclase, a variety of feldspar. Moonstone has a peculiar shimmering property called "schiller" that resembles the light of the moon. This mysterious stone is also called wolf's-eye, fish-eye, and water opal. Moonstone has an ancient and prominent history of metaphysical and healing properties.

The shifting schiller of moonstone is linked to the waxing and waning of the moon. The stone was used to attract love during the Moon's waxing, and to foretell the future when the moon was waning. The light of a full moon is said to imbue moonstone with occult and magical powers that bring good fortune and enable one to foresee the future. Moonstone was so sacred in India that it was permitted to be displayed only upon a yellow cloth.

To dream of moonstone may foreshadow travel. It can also indicate the awakening of psychic abilities and spiritual development.

MoonstoneThe classic shimmering blue color of moonstone is found mainly in specimens from Sri Lanka. Indian moonstone shows a variety of cloudlike colors including beige brown, green, and orange.

Moonstone metaphysical properties are the epitome of feminine Goddess energy. Moonstone exerts a calming, receptive, reflecting influence upon the wearer. It strengthens intuition and psychic abilities. Moonstone brings out the gentler, more placid qualities in one's personality. It soothes stress and anxiety. It should come as no surprise that moonstone helps ease hormonal disturbances in women. The schiller of moonstone grants fluidity and the ability to float along easily with the changing currents of life.

Moonstone is recommended for farmers and gardeners, artists, dancers, and young men. It strengthens the connections to Mother Earth and to the creative, expressive, feminine Yin nature.

Moonstone healing properties are especially effective for feminine health issues including menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms, and pregnancy or childbirth difficulties. Moonstone's flowing vibrations help open up the lymphatic system, and balance the stomach, pancreas, and pituitary gland. It can help to reduce swelling and the buildup of body fluids (edema). Placed under one's pillow, moonstone relieves insomnia and promotes restful sleep.

One who is psychically sensitive should avoid moonstone during the full Moon, when its power is greatest and may overwhelm one.

Moonstone is the Tibetan mystical birth stone for the month of June. It is also the stone of the Water Signs of the astrological Zodiac: Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio. Moonstone's balancing powers associate it with Libra as well. Of course, the planetary ruler of moonstone is the Moon. It is a little-known fact that moonstones are sacred to Unicorns, who worship The Goddess in Her aspect as Diana, the Roman Moon Goddess.
